Once upon a time there was a Martian named 
Valentine Michael Smith.

Of course, it wasn't /pronounced/ that way.  
But if rendered into English, he thought it 
might sound something like that.

If pressed, he'd have to admit he wasn't really 
from Mars, either.  More like somewhere just to 
the left of Mars.  Right there, you see?  
Straight down the first base path?  If you 
squint a little ...

He hadn't seen his home planet, /or/ Mars, in a 
very long time, though, and in any case he 
really preferred to be called Josh Exley.
